Changing your major?????? 10 pts for your help, simple question!!!!?

I am trying to decide on a major. Now I would never take someones advice on here, but I would just like to know what you think I should do, because I am very confused right now.

I am a sophomore in college and am trying to decide if I should keep my major before it is too late.

My current major is a bachelors degree in English. With this degree, I was planning on moving to California (i'm in Indiana and I hate it here) and get a job where I can write about celebrity news, which I love reading about. I really like writing short stories, but I know I cant make a career out of that, so I wanted to write Celebrity News or another dream I had was to work in a magazine and maybe start my own magazine one day in the future.

I am thinking about changing my major to 2 things:

The first one I am thinking about changing my major to social services or something like that. I love helping people and whenever people need advice I'm always the one they come to. I dont know if I would want to work with kids or adults or both. I dont know if I should be a therapist or what. I have never taken Psychology, but I am thinking about taking it this next semester. I have taken several classes about how society works and the social environment. But I dont know If this would be a good career choice.

The second one I have always dream about being until I changed my mind in high school. I have always wanted to be a teacher. I always thought I would either be with little kids or a high school teacher. Mainly, I would like to be an algebra teacher. I am very good at algebra and have tutored several people in it. algebra just comes easy to me and I just love doing problems in my spare time (yeah, I know thats weird LOL). But the problem with being a teacher is that I'm very shy and don't know if I can take talking in front of people, but once I get comfortable I can probably do it so I dont know.

What is your opinion? Which is the better career choice? Which has better job opportunities? And anything else you have to say will help!

Please and Thank You!!!!Changing your major?????? 10 pts for your help, simple question!!!!?i think you should major in social services beacuse with that degree there is many jobs you can get compared to the others

It's unlikely you'll get your dream job with a degree in English. A degree in journalism might be better suited.

My opinion for everyone is that you should study something that you can have a career in that will support you. No matter what you major in, you have PLENTY of time to take all the other kinds of courses you want. You can even double major. But if you get out of college and can't find a job, that's really a bummer.

It used to be there were great opportunities for teachers, but not so much anymore, and especially not here in California. Too many government cutbacks. I don't know the job market for social services.

Your dream job is very ambitious and inspiring but honestly thats the kind of job that would take 20+ years to achieve. I like your other career choices BUT you really need to figure out what you want. I know thats hard to do trust me ive been back and fourth many times myself between elementry school teacher and pharmecy tech lol. I highly suggest taking intro to psycology to see where you stand on social services. not only is the class extremly interesting but it can help you determine wich path you really want to take. If you find yourself more interested in the child psycology part of it then maybe you could do something with that.

Im majoring in elementry education. From what I get from your question it seems like you would be a great school psych or counselor. (look into it at your college) A math teach would be a GREAT career choice because schools are always needing math teachers, its a high needs area. im not sure where you live but in Texas (where im from) theres something called the TEACH grant and its for people majoring in high needs teaching areas like math, science, and special ed. they recieve like 4,000 dollars a semester (or year or something like that) for going into those felids. That could be a nationwide thing though im not sure (again look into it)

However, teaching is one of those thing that you have to be certain you want to do because its such a demanding, yet rewarding job. I would seriously just take a psycology class and figure out what you would like. both are great choices. I think a good compromise would be a school counselor cause you could work with kids but your not really teaching. Or you could get your math major and teacher certification teach for a couple of years then be a counselor (thats whats great about interdisiplinary studies )

:)
I like the celebrity idea you have going. In California too, you'd be rich haha and it is always interesting.

You would have to major in probably media %26amp; communications for that one, or journalism, or just communications. %26quot;Multimedia and communications%26quot; is one degree, and so is %26quot;Communcations%26quot;, depends in your school has %26quot;M%26amp;C%26quot; together. there is also %26quot;multimedia journalism%26quot; but I think that is for more being on TV talking about gossip or news like being on %26quot;The Insider%26quot; or CNN. It can go both ways. Celebrity gossip is more of a media thing.. but as a writer... not sure. Journalism might fit that one.. or English..

Bah! Just look up the ones I stated and see if you like any of those...

Being a teacher isn't going to be as exciting and you will have a frustrating life... teachers in this country are not paid enough and benefits just keep going down hill and kids are not angels nowadays lol.

Social services to do what? You mean be a social worker? Ehhhhh gimme California anytime haha. Unless you plan on being a social publicist for a celebrity that's okay LOL.
