What do you think would be some pros or cons for changing the school grading system?

some schools are thinking about changing the school grade system to pass and fail instead of grade letters. what do you think of this. what are some pro and cons? What do you think would be some pros or cons for changing the school grading system? This is how european secondary schools and colleges work... Honestly, I think its great, but you have to realize, a %26quot;fail%26quot; is not %26quot;below 60%%26quot; .... it can vary, based on a lot of things... but then honestly, if you have a 68% you are %26quot;failing%26quot; anyway, so why call it a %26quot;D%26quot;... hmm....

In my High School (American- Private School).... a 69 or below was failing...NOT 59 like most public schools.... An %26quot;A%26quot; stopped at 94, and so on. While its not as %26quot;easy%26quot; to maintain an %26quot;A%26quot; Average, it actually shows which students really excel... do we really need a letter grading system? No! Pass / Fail + Standardized Test Scores is how it SHOULD be....
What do you think would be some pros or cons for changing the school grading system?
A pro would be that students wouldn't feel as bad, because instead of feeling only average, (eg. like if they got a C...it's still considered passing...but not that great) they would feel above average (because they passed and wouldn't know if it was with the highest grade or an average grade.)

A con would be that it'd be easier to fail because it seems like the options of 'passing' and 'failing' would be like grading on a curve.

As a teacher, I HATE the NCLB and wish there wasn't standardized tests. I do not however like a pass/fail because 2 kids can pass, but 1 is far better than the other at that particular subject or assignment.

Frankly, I don't care about making kids cry if they get an F or if I hold them back. I hold them back b/c they are NOT ready to move onto the next grade. It honestly isn't emotionally damaging. Kids who are moved forward too quickly, end up dropping out and for my students that often means ending up in a gang.
