How long should a garage charge for labour when changing the Ignition Barrel on a scooter?

and how much do you think it should cost in total? How long should a garage charge for labour when changing the Ignition Barrel on a scooter? It depends on the garage. Probably no more than an hour + parts. Most use a standardized chart like the automotive industry does and that is what you get charged, no matter what the mechanics actual time was.

Most shops do it by the Flat Rate Manual. They look up a particular job and quote it at the flat rate, it will a total number of hours. Now the dealership charges you by the flat rate manual, because it has to pay the mechanic. But they should be able to tell you pretty accuarately before they start work, what the charge will be.

The flat rate manual quotes a time for a fully qualified mechanic, with experience, to do the job. If your mechanic is a beginner, it may actually take longer. But they charge the same rate anyway, because the owner should not pay to give their guys experience.

There are also the parts sold at retail, and most shop rates are at $75/hour - $80/hour.

If it came as a shock to you, did they quote you a price when you brought it in? And did they exceed that price by more than $100?

Motorcycle mechanics are expensive, which is why most of us prefer to do our own wrenching. Not that it's entirely succesful.
