When changing the type of litter in your litter box, should you gradually get the cats used to it in some way?

We changed the kind of litter that we use for our cats. We switched to the kind that looks like wood chips and smells like cedar. One of our cats doesn't like it, he jumped in and jumped out quickly and then later had an accident on the floor.

Should I switch back to the old kind? Or will he get used to the new? We just don't want him having anymore accidents outside the litter box. Any help is appreciated! When changing the type of litter in your litter box, should you gradually get the cats used to it in some way?i personally have never had a problem with my cats when i have changed litter however if you are having a problem, try mixing the litter half and half together that way its a transaction to switching to the new. there will still be some old for comfort and then some new so they can get used to it. Maybe the cedar one was too strong of a smell that your cat wasnt used to.

Your cats may hate wood chips.. dont like the smell of cedar and many other things.. I would go to normal litter.

when he has an accident then put the poopy in the litter box then put him in the litter box and let him smell it it should work. It worked for me when i trained my kitten.
In general cats prefer fine-grained litter to large grained. Revert back to using the original litter for the moment to make sure both cats will use the litter box. Then start by adding one handful of the new litter, then two - slowly changing over several weeks.
