Are they changing the legal drinking again in Ontario for Americans?

There's always these rumors around...but i heard they were changing the drinking age for Americans in Ontario to 21 January of 2009. does anyone know if that's true? you have to have a passport January of 2009 i know that...but are they changing the drinking age?Are they changing the legal drinking again in Ontario for Americans? The government and the bars/restaurants only check for the legal age to drink, which is that you must be 19 years or older.

They do NOT check your ID, then ask you if you are American. The laws apply to you locally, not internationally.

However, keep in mind that there are some US federal laws that your government can apply. For example, it is illegal for US citizens to purchase/posess Cuban products like cigars. So even if you are in Canada where Cuban cigars are legal, if someone videotapes you and the US government gets a hold of it, in theory they can prosecute you for that offense. (Realistically, I've never seen that happen!)

The age of majority is the same for everyone
Are they changing the legal drinking again in Ontario for Americans?
Yes...the drinking age is 19 for non-Americans only; we have new super-duper technology that can automatically determine the Americans in a bar, and we will be implanting a micro chip to prevent them from being served...you're kidding, right?

However, starting next January you will need a passport to enter Canada (currently required for air travel, not required for land crossings).

What the laws will do is have a zero tolerance on U21's driving while drinking (good thing...the message is %26quot;have a drink but if you get behind the wheel, you're going to jail%26quot;), and limit the number of passengers a teen can have in the car.
no, that's ridiculous we don't care what nationality u r, the law is 19 if ur in Ontario, that's it...
