Changing my phone and SIM card?

Hi i am currently on the tesco mobile network (lol i know) with my sony ericsson w810i. I want to change my mobile phone and get a HTC Wildfire. Unfortunately tesco mobile do not sell this phone under there network. My question is could i buy a HTC Wildire (sim free) and then buy, for example an o2 pay as you go sim card to put in the phone and just use it. Or would i have to unlock the phone or something?Changing my phone and SIM card?I am on a contract and recently changed my phone all i did was transfer my sim to the new phone worked perfectly so if you buy an unlocked phone just do the same you should not have a problem
Changing my phone and SIM card?
if you buy the phone from o2 or a similar company (an actual network) then it will most likely be locked, but if you buy it from a company such as Clove Tech, it will be unlocked and you can use any SIM in it, even your Tesco Mobile one.
Changing my phone and SIM card?
sim free, implies that you can put in any sim card you like, so yes It is not locked ot a network. You might be better to buy it on o2 and get a deal. If you use your phone enough for it to cost you more than 拢2.50 a week, you might be better getting a contract, and this might give you phone at reduced price or free even. I have contract and it works out because I got it on special deal, that I pay 拢2 a week after the contract is over for the line rental, as rest is going on cost of phone.
Like Aquariumnerd Guy said, if you buy a sim free phone then it is not locked to any network.

The only reason that phones are locked is because most people buy their phones from Telephone Suppliers. They provide the phone much cheaper because you are guaranteeing to be using their phone service. The longer the contract = the cheaper they will provide the phone. So the lock is there to ensure the phone is linked to them.

Look for the deal that suits you. Everyone has different needs and this is why there are so many deals. Often by going to a third party to buy the deal (Carphone Wharehouse, Phones4U etc) they will have the same phones with even better deals than the Service Provider shops. Just don't get taken in by the Cash Back cons. (read the rip off stories on the web)

If you are lucky enough to live in a city and can get any signal you want, then you should get plenty of choice.
More than likely the new phone will be locked.

It is not hard to unlock them and in most cases you will not pay more than maybe U$S20.00. It seems you are in the UK so that might be 15 pounds or so.

To me, it would be worth it just so I would not have a contract and a monthly fee.

Good luck!!!
